6-1-2020 Parent newsletter

Dear Spark! Discovery Preschool Families, 6-1-2020

Thank you for a strong finish to the school year and your outstanding levels of engagement in our online learning. We know that this year did not end in the way that anyone expected, but we are incredibly proud of how our community has responded and come together during this difficult time.

As we look ahead to August and the start of the 2020-2021 school year, we are continuing to monitor information from our county and state health agency partners, and the Governor’s Office on guidelines and restrictions to ensure the continued safety of our community. Our district has had a comprehensive task force in place since April that has been working on potential scenarios for the start of the year. In the final plan, the district will implement one of the following scenarios:

1. full in-person instruction with additional safety measures that are in alignment with local and state guidelines

2. full online instruction

3. a hybrid approach that would likely involve a certain percentage of students attending on alternating days, as determined by the number of people allowed in each school building by county and state restrictions

Our preference and hope is for full in-person instruction, however, as you know, we are obligated to adhere to guidelines set forth by both county and state health departments, as well as the Governor’s Office, and will continue to adhere to their mandates during this global health crisis. The information we receive from our agency partners changes frequently, and at this time, it is premature to determine and share one specific, definitive plan. We intend to send one detailed back-to-school plan with specifics to everyone during the last week of June, when we anticipate we will have more concrete guidance from the Governor’s Office and our health agency partners.

Again, thank you for your continued partnership and support as we navigate this challenge as a community. We hope that you have a safe and healthy summer, and invite you to take advantage of the summer learning resources developed by our district’s curriculum team. If you have any questions about the timeline for sharing our back-to-school plans or other summer resources, please feel free to contact me at gordon_paige@svvsd.org. We will also continue to keep our Coronavirus page updated with back-to-school information, meal distribution schedules, summer learning opportunities, and more.
