Ms. Alyssa's update 4-5-18

Happy Thursday! It was good to be back at school this week and hear about all the things you and your kiddos did over break. We heard about getaways, play dates and tons of fun.

This Week:

  • We continued talking about 3D shapes. We learned a fun rhyme and looked for these shapes around the classroom. The poem is below, the kiddos loved saying it.

  • We discussed the number 17 and practiced recognizing it, writing it and counting it. We used a ten frame to see how 17 is 10 + 7. Many students are more accurately counting since we have been slowing down in the teen numbers. A lot of the kids are getting close to their blue star, yay!

  • We practiced recognizing, writing and producing the sounds for the letters Xx, Yy and Zz. We focused on the sight words: can, my, do, to, like, you, not, me. This was our third time through the alphabet so we will pull the focus back from letters a little this next time through and move to digraph blends and sight words. You will see a change in homework as well.

  • We finished our Nursery Rhyme unit. This week our nursery rhymes were: Jack and Jill and Humpty Dumpty. We focused on Humpty Dumpty and tried to create something out of recycled materials to keep him safe. It was fun to see the students cooperate to try to solve this problem.

Next Week:

  • Number: Eighteen (18)
