Ms. Jo's update 8-27-18

Ms. Jo’s & Ms, Jessica’s August News

Dear Families,

We completed our first week of school and it is so nice to start to get to know each other.  The month of August is all about learning routine, schedule and building a class environment.  Every student should have received a brown paper bag titled “ all about your family bag”. If you didn’t please reach out to us.  We will be wrapping this activity up this coming week. For the remainder of the month, we will be taking notes and observing your preschooler to see what they know.  Every student is unique and we want to make sure we are challenging them and differentiating activities for them. Our classes are a mixed age group which consists of 3,4, and 5 year olds.

Literacy and Math focus for the month:

The week of the 27th we will be focusing on the letters Aa, Bb, and our first name.  In Math we will focus on the number 1, color orange, and shape circle. We will assess some scissor skills, handwriting, and other number and letter recognition.  Please do not stress if your preschooler doesn’t know some or any of these skills. This is just some reasons why they are here!

Thursday, August 30th

We will have a guest from Healthy Learning Pathways teaching us about germ busters the importance of washing hands.

Thursday Folders

Every Thursday your student will be coming home with a folder.  Please check what is inside. On the right pocket is for papers to be returned to school.  On the left side pocket are papers, artwork that can stay home. Please return the folder on Mondays or Tuesdays.   We will send home a “homework” sheet either in math or literacy. This is optional. I do not encourage worksheets in preschool.  Students will not be doing worksheets during class. We will do hands on activities.

MyOn:

Your student has free access to on online reading program.  In the next two weeks, your students login will be written on their Thursday folder.

Volunteers:

If you have taken a trained volunteer class please let us know.  We would love to have you in our class. The next opportunity to get trained is Friday, Sept. 21st from 9-10:30 in the cafeteria.  I will be presenting so please come and spread the word. If you can not volunteer in the classroom but would like to help, please email.  We can send things home to cut out. If you are interested in being our scholastic book club parent to separate forms, let us know.

Birthdays

If your child had an August birthday  before school started, we will celebrate them in May.

Twiggle the turtle

We will be starting to send home Twiggle the turtle this week.  The student who is the kid of the day will be taking it home for the night.

Thank you for partnering with us and please reach out if you have any questions.  We are off to a great start!

Thanks,

Jo and Jessica
