Ms. Kiersten’s class update 9-12-18

We have been having so much fun sharing information about our families this week!  Most of the children have already had a turn to share this week but a few more will be finishing tomorrow and Friday.  If your child’s bag hasn’t been sent in, please do so soon.  They have all really enjoyed talking about what makes them and their families special.  Ms. Tawna recorded the videos so hopefully I’ll be able to load them into Seesaw sometime in the next week.  Which brings me to my next question:  Have you signed up for SeeSaw yet?  If you need another link, please let me know.  They do expire and each class had their own so I will need to send you a new one.  This is a great way to see what your child is working on in class that might not be getting sent home (pictures of playtime, group projects, etc.). Next week we’ll be diving into friendship.  What makes a good friend?  Who is a friend?  How can we be good friends?   What if we make a red choice (choose a not-positive behavior) and a friend gets upset?  As you can imagine these are some pretty important topics and we’ll be spending a great deal of time over the next two weeks discussing them.  As a head’s up, here in my classroom I don’t make students apologize to one another.  Instead I have them check to see that the other person is ok and then ask if a hug, a handshake, or a high five could help them feel better.  This is because I don’t believe insincere apologies are useful but it is always good to try to help another person. In other news, we have several fun and important events coming up.   Our first PJ Day is tomorrow and then Friday.  For a $1 donation to the PTO your child can enjoy a whole day of school in their pajamas!  Please make sure that they are able to take their pjs off well enough to use the bathroom independently. Thursday night is also the PTO meeting and a presentation from our Healthy Learning Paths partners about children and sleep starting at 6 pm. Friday is the Miner’s Day Parade!    Read all about participating with our school in the Spark! newsletterOn Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25 we will be having vision and hearing screenings.  Please make sure your children are here those days! Picture Day is coming!  The Tuesday/Thursday class and the afternoon class will both have their pictures taken on Tuesday, September 25.  The Monday/Wednesday/Friday class will have their pictures taken on Wednesday, September 26.  Please look in your child’s Thursday/Friday folder for more information. One final note – In this week’s Thursday folder you will find our first Scholastic Book Order forms.  If you’d like to order, you can do so either with the flyer or by using the online code that will be with the order forms.  Our first order deadline will be Wednesday, 9/19.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  (And if you’ve already ordered:  THANK YOU!) Thank you for sharing your children with Ms. Tawna and I! Sincerely, Ms. Kiersten
