Dear Families,

Young children are always moving! Moving makes children feel capable and confident, releases tension, and builds strong bodies and minds. Children’s love of movement  will make this study of exercise and wellness very exciting! We’ll try many types of exercise, watch other people exercise, find out how bodies move, and learn what our bodies need to move and exercise. We will also be exploring nutrition.

In this unit we have some main focuses:

  • What are the parts of the body and how do they function?
  • How do we keep our bodies healthy?
  • How does good nutrition keep our bodies healthy?
  • How does exercise keep our bodies healthy?

As we study Wellness, we will learn concepts and skills in social studies, science, literacy, math, the arts, and technology. We will also be developing thinking skills to observe, investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions and test our ideas.

What You Can Do at Home

  • Reading books on MyOn about Exercise and Nutrition
  • Exercise with your child at least 20 minutes, at home, at the rec center, in the community
  • Point out when you notice people in your community exercising.
  • Create a list together of your family’s favorite exercises
  • When you read books with your child, notice and talk about the character’s physical movements

Some Activities We Have Planned

  • Measuring parts of the body
  • Sorting Healthy and Unhealthy Foods
  • Looking at the science behind germs
  • Graphing our favorite foods

Thanks for playing an important role in our learning!
