Michelle and I wanted to say thank you to all the students and families who gave us such beautiful flowers and gifts for teacher appreciation week!  We are so thankful we were able to work with you and your child this school year.  We cannot thank you enough!

On Thursday please look in your child's folder for some projects they have been working on for Mother's Day and Father's Day (we didn't want to leave the dads out).  Also, there will be a letter in your child's folder regarding next year.  So, please be sure to read through everything this week!

Important Dates:
May 18- PBIS Reward
May 24- End of the year celebration and last day of school

 During the week:
  • We did an all letter review (we will be doing this through the rest of the year).  We focused on some letters we have trouble remembering the name and/or the sound.
  • We worked on the numbers 11 and 12.  We focused on addition problems and how we add by ten.  We talked about how these teen numbers are a set of 10 plus a specific number.  We practice our addition by counting the set and the following numbers to provide us with the answer.
  • We worked on identifying triangles.  We learned even if a triangle is long, small, or wide- it is still a triangle!  We focused on how triangles have 3 sides as well as 3 corners.  I tried tricking the class by drawing silly triangles, they could not be fooled!
  • The sight word we worked on this week was "you".
  • We focused on the lifecycle of humans.  The steps in the lifecycle were: baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, and elderly.  We created a concpet map showing the process of the lifecycle.  We also had discussions around how we grow and change.
  • We shared our wonderful books the students made about how they have grown and changed.  The students read the books to the class and showed the pictures.  These books are now placed in our classroom library for all to see (as well as some on our bulletin board). The students absolutely love these books!
  • During small groups we started working on a special surprise for families for the end of the year- you will all love them :)
  • We worked on developing stories with the main concepts of who, what, and where.  Students pulled out picture cards for each of the areas and told a story using them.  They came up with such detailed and creative stories!
  • Ms. Ruth did her weekly small group speech lesson on Monday
  • We read our sight word book for you.  It talked about how we grow and change and the process of the human lifecycle.  After reading as a whole group students read independently.  Then they got to read to partner.  This was so much fun!  The students even got to share what their favorite stage of the lifecycle was (many said baby)!
  • We sorted pictured based on if we use/do things in the past, present, and future.
  • We sequenced the lifecycle of a human based on a story.  Students had to identify the picture/stage and place them in the correct order.
  • We did a writing prompt on what we wanted to be when we grow up.  Some student work is placed on our bulletin board while others were sent home.  We have a lot of future batman/batgirl and ninjas in our class!
  •  The afternoon class played lowercase letter BINGO. While the morning class matched dominos to the correct number based on dots.
  • We worked more on our May math journals.
  • We started a concpet map where we drew pictures of things we did in the past.  The upcoming weeks we will draw our present and future.
  • The afternoon class got to do some hungry caterpillar yoga!  This was fun (even though we only got to do it for 5 minutes).
  • The afternoon class also got to watch and sing the baby shark song (link will be below).  We got to see the different stages of the lifecycle of a shark in this song- plus this is one of our favorite songs!

Check out some of the poems and songs we learned about this week:
