Ms. Nicky’s update 12-1-17

Ms. Nicky and Ms. Sydney’s News

Can you believe the year is almost over?!  Time is going so fast!  Before the break, we finished our STEM Unit of Study on Nursery Rhymes.  Hopefully, they shared the Nursery Rhyme books that they made with you and were able to “read” or tell you some of the ones that were in there.  We have now moved on to my favorite STEM Unit-Health and Exercise.  The students are learning about many of their body parts through fun experiments and projects, and are LOVING the doctor’s office in our dramatic play center.  I am hoping to have a nurse come in and talk to them about ways to keep their bodies’ healthy, and we will end the unit doing a Design Challenge where they will have to create a workout video as a class.  That should definitely be entertaining!

STEM Profile of the Month:  Reflective

“I think and share what I have learned, what I am good at, and what I can I improve the next time. I take the time to think about my actions and their effects. I give and take feedback from others.”

Some books that encourage being reflective:

The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett

What Do You Do With An Idea? By Kobi Yamada

Home School Connections

We are almost through our first round of the alphabet!  Thank you for your diligence with doing the homework with your child.  They are doing a great job with learning their letters and letter sounds!   Our next round of homework will focus more on beginning letter sounds, where students will be asked to identify pictures that match the beginning sound of the letter we are working on.  There will still be handwriting practice, as well.  We will also continue sending home the math homework.

Kindergarten Registration

If your child is heading off to kindergarten next year, remember that registration starts December 1.  If you are hoping for full-day or a morning class, make sure to register early as those classes usually fill up fast!

Important Dates

December 7:  PBIS Reward-Dance Party in the Gym

December 14:  Winter Celebration

December 14:  PJ Day-Bring $1 and wear your PJ’s to school

December 15:  Last day for Spark! Toy Drive

December 18-January 1:  NO SCHOOL-Winter Break

Winter Celebration

We will have our Winter Celebration on December 14.  Students should come at their regular class time.  The morning class celebration will start at 10:30 and the afternoon class celebration will start at 2:25.  We will do a craft and have a special snack.  I will send out requests for donations for the snack through Sign-Up Genius shortly.  I hope you will all be able to make it!

Donations

We are in need of 5 ounce Cups for snacks.  If you are able to donate, please make sure they are the 5 ounce, rather than the 3 ounce–we tried the 3 ounce cups that we had, but they kept collapsing on the kids, causing a lot of spillage.  We are also in need of rolls of paper towels.  Thanks in advance!
