Ms. Nicky’s Update 4-30-18

Ms. Nicky’s and Ms. Sydney’s News

Wow! It’s hard to believe the school year is coming to an end! We have started our last STEM unit of study, which is Robotics. Students are loving the unit so far, and it is fun to hear them using the different robotics terminology we are introducing in class as they explore during choice time. We’ll end the unit in a couple of weeks with a Design Challenge, where they will be asked to design a robot to help solve a problem.

STEM Profile of the Month: Empathetic

Library

We are done visiting the library for the school year. If you still have a book at home, please return it as soon as possible so that Ms. Vicky can get everything in the library tied up for the year.

Working With Your Child At Home

We really appreciate your efforts this year with helping your child to complete and return their homework! We are working on creating a packet to send home that will give you some ideas for activities you can do with your child this summer to keep their skills sharp.

Assessments

We have been working hard to finish our final round of GOLD assessments. It’s exciting to see how much growth has occurred over the course of the school year!

I will be sending the Individual Learning Plans home within the next couple of weeks that will share your child’s progress with you. If you have any questions after looking it over, please let me know.
We have also completed the PALS (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) assessment for students going on to kindergarten. The students did great! Implementing the screening at the end of preschool helps us to review our practices to make sure we are targeting the correct literacy skills that students will need to be successful in kindergarten. It also assists us in tracking regression over the summer since the test will be administered again right at the beginning of kindergarten. I have already sent your child’s results home. If you have any questions after looking it over, please let me know!

End of Year Celebration

We will have an end of the year celebration on our last day of school, which will be Thursday, May 24. I will send more information home in the next couple of weeks with regards to the starting time. We will not be doing a graduation ceremony, but will have a special treat to recognize all of the hard work students have done this year. We hope you can join us!
