Ms. Tori's Update 10-7-19

Hello Preschool Families!!

We hope that you are enjoying your weekend. I wanted to Thank everyone for attending Parent-Teacher Conferences this week. It was great getting to meet and talk with you about your child.

A Week in Review:

·  We concluded our Transportation with a Design Challenge. The students were asked to build their dream cars. Some of the students wanted to add machines that would create a meal or drink for them at the touch of a button while others wanted their cars to drive fast and be shaped like a unicorn or dinosaur.

·  Twiggle came and talked to the students about being Mad or Angry. We learned that our eyes tend to be closed or smaller; our eyebrows go down; our lips are in a frown or pinched together. We also tend to fold our arms.

·  We talked about the number, three, 3. How do we write 3? Can we find things that come as 3 objects?

·      We worked with letters, Gg and Hh. We talked about things that started with that letter and how to form that letter. We practiced saying the sound with Baby Echo.

·      We worked on triangles. We worked on how to identify them and draw them. We talked about triangles having three sides.

·      We talked about the color, Green. We looked who was wearing the color and where we could find it in our classroom and outside. We sang this song about the color Green:

·      Green

                                      GREEN

(ROW, ROW ROW YOUR BOAT)

G-R-E-E-N, G-R-E-E-N

I KNOW HOW TO SPELL GREEN, G-R-E-E-N

CATERPILLARS ARE GREEN

AND GRASSHOPPERS, TOO

I KNOW HOW TO SPELL GREEN, G-R-E-E-N

What to Expect:

·  We will be having the Frederick-Firestone Firefighters come present about fire safety and prevention as well as talking about community helpers

·  Our letters of the week are Ii and Jj

·  Our Color of the week is Blue

·  Our Number of the week is Four, 4

·  Our Shape of the Week is a rectangle

Thank you for your support! Working with your preschooler at home really makes a difference.

School News/District News:

Please register Spark as your designated school for the King Sooper’s/City Market Rewards Program! You can do so by logging in and then registering at https://www.kingsoopers.com/. Search for “Spark Discovery Preschool PTO” or by entering the code “HE297” and enroll. It’s as simple as that! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions about this.

Volunteering at Spark!:

We welcome parent, guardian, and grandparent volunteers and want you to be involved.  For preschool, it is required by licensing that volunteer training be offered and attended to volunteer in classrooms or the school.  This is a session where children over the age of 6 months should not be present.

Speaking of volunteering, we are looking for an office squad of volunteers this school year to better assist our teachers in clerical ways (copying, laminating, stapling, sorting, etc).  Sometimes, children have a difficult time at this age having a family member volunteer in the classroom, as it can be difficult with separation, anxiety, or behaviors. If you’d like to volunteer but know the classroom will be a difficult space, we are looking for a volunteer in the office for each session of preschool in the AM and PM Monday through Thursday, for a total of eight dependable, reliable volunteers each week. This will help teachers across the school make the best use of their planning time during the week and on Fridays. We already have a volunteer on Monday and Wednesday mornings! Please consider assisting our staff in this manner if the idea of being in the classroom doesn't appeal to you. The below training is required. If you are interested, please email me atgordon_paige@svvsd.org.
