Enrollment for returning and new students in 2019 - 2020

Updated Important Information About Registering for Preschool for '19-'20

It is almost time to take action for preschool for next year!  If you have a child staying at Spark! for another year, or you have an additional child that is going to enroll, here’s information about how to apply and enroll for the 2019-2020 school year. The information provided here replaces earlier communication, as we have received new information from the Office of Early Childhood for our school district.

There are three steps in the process.  The first step is to APPLY, the second is to have the application ACCEPTED or DENIED, and the third step is to ENROLL, a for preschool.

The application period begins on Monday, January 7, 2019, at 6 am through January 18, 2019. While applications and enrollment can be taken after that, the best chances of getting the schedule parents most desire occurs during the first few days of this window, as applications for new students are accepted in a first-come, first-serve fashion. Children who have attended school at Spark! during the '18-'19 school year, children with parents who work in SVVSD, or children who are adding a sibling that will also be enrolled at Spark! Discovery Preschool during the '19-'20 school year will receive preferential placement. For the 2019-2020 school year, the application and enrollment processes are moving online.

APPLY FOR NEXT YEAR:  Between Jan 7 and Jan 18, all parents applying for tuition, Colorado Preschool Program (CPP), or Scholarship for the '19-'20 school year must go online and fill out an electronic application (see below for a program description).   All families -- NEW AND RETURNING-- are required to complete an on-line applicationwith the exception of parents of children with special needs (ie. those children in special education with an Individual Education Plan (IEP)). As in the past, parents of children with special needs will receive notification of placement and the need to enroll in the spring (typically March or April), and they will need to complete an online enrollment at that time. As soon as we have the link to apply, we will mail that out to returning families and post it online for new families.  For all other parents, it will be posted on the district website on January 7 at 6 am.

APPLICATION ACCEPTED / DENIED: After the application period is over, the application will be approved or denied by the school and families will receive notification.  If approved, it will be time to complete paper or online enrollment, the second step of the process, with deadlines for completion.

ENROLLMENT: Here are a few things to note about paper or online enrollment, once your child's application is approved:
1) Deposits: For families who are accepted through our tuition-based program, a $65 non-refundable deposit for the 2019-2020 school year will be required.  The deposit is needed to hold a child's placement.  CPP, Scholarship, and Special Education enrollments do not pay a deposit.

2) Parents should expect to upload the following documents during on line enrollment process:
*Birth Certificate
*Proof of Residency (water bill, electric bill, etc.)
If computer/ Internet access is an issue, families can come to the school, where our Registrar / Attendance Clerk, Vicky Arriaga can assist families in the computer lab of the school during Vicky's hours, Monday through Thursday, 8am to 4pm and Friday from 8am to 1pm. We will also have paper enrollment as well.

UNIVERSAL SCREENING: All newly accepted preschool students will receive a developmental screening. If a child has had a screening already at the school, they will not need to do this again. The school will contact families between February and August to schedule an appointment.  Children who qualify for special education do not take this screening.

Our schedules are:
AM session: 8:30 - 11:10 am
PM session: 12:25 - 3:05 pm

Tuition: Tuition-based preschool opportunities are offered to include two, three, and four half-day options for both three and four year old students, depending on the schedule.  All classrooms are half-day mornings or afternoons.  Monthly program fees apply and are based on the half day sessions:

  • Tues / Thurs AM:  $185 per month, for 3 year olds only by Oct 1, 2019
  • Mon / Wed / Fri AM:  $235 per month, for 3-4 year olds by Oct 1, 2019
  • Mon - Thurs AM or Mon - Thurs PM:  $290 per month, for 3-4 year olds by Oct 1, 2019

Colorado Preschool Program (CPP): CPP is a state-funded, free program for eligible children identified with certain qualifiers.  Children qualifying for CPP are required to attend four half-days per week.  All students enrolled in CPP must be age 4 on or before Oct 1, 2019. Classes are Mon - Thurs AM or Mon - Thurs PM.

Scholarship:  Scholarships, hosted by St. Vrain Valley Schools, offers programming for children who are 3 years old by Oct 1, 2019, as funding is available for eligible and qualifying families. Schedules vary.

Special Education: Any preschooler who has been evaluated, deemed eligible, and qualified for special education services will be placed by the school district.  Schedules vary.

All children must be toilet trained, with the exception of students with special needs, prior to starting in a classroom.

Wrap Around Childcare:  Childcare is a licensed program, located at Spark! Discovery Preschool, which offers extended-day care and opportunities for enrichment for families and children in two of our classrooms for children who are ages 3 to 5. Childcare requires separate tuition, separate enrollment paperwork, a separate deposit, and is a different program than preschool. Childcare assistance, called the Colorado Childcare Assistance Program (CCAP) is also available, and provides assistance for qualifying families to receive assistance from the county in which they live. Summer of 2019 childcare programming is also available. Parents will need to consult with Alicia Sheahan-Hall, Community Schools Manager, regarding continued enrollment for the 2019-2020 school year by calling 720-652-7908 or at sheahanhall_alicia@svvsd.org. Childcare enrollment for next school year opens on February 4, 2019, using the on line system. Summer 2019 program enrollment begins on February 13, 2019, for students already enrolled in childcare, and opens to the public on February 20, 2019. Due to construction at our location, for summer programming only, the program will be hosted at another close location.

In addition to on line enrollment additional paperwork, a General Health Appraisal form and ongoing annual paperwork required each year will be addressed in August 2019 with each family at our orientation sessions.

If there’s a child in your home that will turn age five by October 1, 2019, parents and children should transition to kindergarten for the 2019 – 2020 school year. The process for enrollment for kindergarten began December 3, 2018 and is on going. If there are concerns related to progression to kindergarten, please contact your child's teacher after the February parent-teacher conference.

For all types of enrollment, a goal is to provide returning children programming with the same teacher the second year so as to provide consistency and continuity, unless there is a preference to try something new. Consistency may not be possible, in some cases, as a child’s teacher may not offer all the possible schedules from which parents choose.

Finally, if you like what is happening here at Spark! Discovery Preschool, please help us spread the word to friends, family, neighbors and others in the Carbon Valley area about our upcoming enrollment period.  We appreciate your positive referrals by word of mouth.

Even more information can be found here on our website.  Ask to speak with Vicky Arriaga, our registrar and attendance clerk. Please call school at 720-652-7906 if you have any questions about registration and enrollment for preschool for next school year!

With respect - Paige Gordon, Principal
