NewsWe had a busy November! This month we focused on the letters Ii, Jj, and Kk. We also have been working on recognizing numbers 1-5 and counting groups of items from 1-5. Our book focus was Bear Says Thanks. The students did a wonderful job retelling the story using visuals, signs, and words! They enjoyed making and sharing our friendshipfruit salad and working on saying/signing “thank you.” We have wrapped up our unit on Pets. CurriculumOur next unit of focus is Transportation. We will be focusing on concepts such vehicles on land, in the air, and in water. Our letter focus for December will be Ll, Mm, and Nn.Our big idea of mathematics for December is number operations; the idea that sets of objects can be changed by adding items (joining) or taking away items (separating). We will focus on small groups of objects (2-3) and add on or take away one and recount the groups. You can practice this at home while playing with toys such as cars, trains, stuffedanimals or when counting out items for snack. We will be reading The Gingerbread Man and doing fun activities related to the story the week before Winter break. We will not be hosting a formal winter party, however, will have a special snack. For our snack we will be decorating gingerbread cookies. We will need frosting, sprinkles, m & m’s, etc. If you would like to donate one of these items for our special snack please let me know.
