Ms. Marie’s Monthly News

Dear Preschool Families and Friends:

Note:  Kindergarten enrollment starts December 2nd through the 19th!

Welcome to winter and the month of December!  Please make sure your children come to school prepared to go outside with warm coats, hats, mittens (rather than gloves which are hard from little hands to put on) and boots.   The children have shown such a sense of pride as they take on more independence in dressing themselves.

We are excited that Benjamin Grill-Kessler has joined our classroom team as a Paraeducator!  The children already feel comfortable with his warm, yet dynamic personality.

We are starting our Pets STEM unit this week.  The family letter is included at the end of this newsletter.  So many children love pets and appreciate them even if they do not own one.  We will be learning about what animals are pets, where they live and how to take care of them.  This unit is an opportunity for children to learn how to be safe around animals.  Pets are not allowed at school, but we are asking families to send in pictures of their pets.  If any family members work with pets and would like to share their knowledge with the students, please contact Marie.

*Please send in a picture of your family pets.  You can send in a picture and we will copy it or you can email them to [email protected]

·       We will be studying the letters Ww, Xx, Yy, Zz

·       We will be looking at shapes and how they are the same and different.  We will also be looking at the spatial concepts with positional words.  We will continue our work with sets and how to describe them.

·       Our friend Twiggle visits our classroom every day picking the superstar.  He will be reminding children to take a break to calm down by doing “Turtle”.  We know many of you have seen your children demonstrating “Turtle”. Ask your child to show you “Turtle”.

Winter Celebration

We will be hosting a Winter Celebration for Family members and friends to attend on Thursday December 19th before pickup.  More details to come!  If anyone would like to help with this event behind the scenes, please. Let contact Marie.

Dear Families,

The children have become curious about different types of pets that they see, what pets need, how pets feel, and the kinds of jobs that involve working with pets. We are excited to begin a study of pets and think it will be engaging and fun! To get our study going, we need your help. We would like to collect pictures of any family pets that you may have. Please also let us know if you or another family member works with pets. We would love to arrange a time for you to join us in our investigation.

In this unit we have some main focuses:

  • What kind of animals are pets?
  • What are some characteristics of pets?
  • Where do you get pets?
  • Where do they live?
  • How do we care for pets?
  • What do pets eat?
  • How can you tell how your pet is feeling?
  • How can pets help us?
  • How do pets make us feel?

As we study Pets, we will learn concepts and skills in social studies, science, literacy, math, the arts, and technology. We will also be developing thinking skills to observe, investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions and test our ideas.

Apreciadas familias,
