Ms. Nicky and Ms. Julie’s News We had a great time with our transportation unit! We had so many adventures, from field trips to the police station to going to a drive-in movie with awesome home-made vehicles to traveling around the world in an airplane to building boats and seeing if they could float. We hope your child shared some of the fun that we had and learning that we did with you! Our next unit of study will be Nursery Rhymes. This is a great unit for building our language and rhyming skills. Maybe you can teach your child some nursery rhymes that were your favorites growing up! Working With Your Child at Home: We have almost made it through the alphabet for the first time around. Students are doing a great job learning their letters and letter sounds. We appreciate your diligence in working with your child on their homework! A skill that we work on a lot at school is rhyming. Learning to rhyme is an important step in learning to read, as it helps children hear patterns in words. It’s also fun! You can work with your child at home on this by singing songs or reading books that have rhyming words inthem. As they become more familiar with the songs and books, leave out the rhyming words as you are singing or reading, and see if they can fill them in on their own. You can also play games like, “I’m thinking of a word that rhymes with_____”, and see if they can guess your word. It’s okay if the words they come up with are nonsense words, just as long as they rhyme–that can make the game even more fun. Kindergarten Registration: Can you believe that it is almost time to enroll your child in Kindergarten?! Registration starts December 2, and is done online. Please make sure to get your child enrolled as soon as you can. You should have received several emails from our principal, Paige Gordon, regarding enrollment. If you did not, or you need moreinformation, please let me know and I will try to point you in the right direction. Winter Celebration: We will be having a Winter Celebration Winter Celebration on December 19. Students should come at their regular class time in the morning, and we will start the celebration at 2:15 pm. We will be doing some winter-themed crafts to take home. We hope you will be able to join us! Book and PJ DriveThis year we are hosting a book and PJ drive for students in need. If you are able to donate pajamas (sizes 5 or 6) or picture books, you can either bring them to thefront office or you can give them to me and I will make sure they get to the right place. The last day to donate is December 17. Donations for our ClassroomWe are in need of rolls of paper towels and napkins, if you happen to come across a good sale on them. Preschool can be pretty messy, and the paper towels that theschool provides is not very absorbent for cleaning up. Rolls of paper towel from the store are much more efficient with this.
