Dear Families,
We are onto our next STEM unit: Pets! I will attach the family letter below. ****Please email me a picture of your family pet so that we can make a class book. If you do not have a pet, you can send in a picture of a pet that you know (maybe someone else in your family has a pet) and if not, maybe a picture of your student’s favorite stuffy pet?***** Some activities that are opportunities in the classroom are as follows: In our classroom we have a Pet Vet. Students are taking turns with stuffed animals giving them care and attention. In the block area, one opportunity has been to make housing structures for some of our pets. Some students have been excited to build with this purpose. We will continue doing this with various materials. Students working with pictures of pets and sorting them. We have also been using pet counters to count and quantify. I can see students growing and learning a lot in this area. In the art area we are using material to create “fur” for pictures of animals. We are moving along with our Fundations curriculum. This week we will be learning about Uu and Vv. We have been going on a letter hunt in our room to match the letters to the Fundations cards. This creates more conversation about the letters and is another way for us to practice. We have been working on drawing ourselves with all of our parts (head, body, eyes, ears, nose, arms, hands, legs, feet.) . We are practicing labeling our pictures with our names. Students are growing and learning is this area! It is exciting to see! At home it would be great if you could rote count up to 20. This could be done in the car on the way to school. It is quick and easy and just the practice of saying the numbers in order. Thank you for your partnership! I look forward to see each of you every day! With my best,Mary Stivison
Dear Families,
The children have become curious about different types of pets that they see, what pets need, how pets feel, and the kinds of jobs that involve working with pets. We are excited to begin a study of pets and think it will be engaging and fun! To get our study going, we need your help. We would like to collect pictures of any family pets that you may have. Please also let us know if you or another family member works with pets. We would love to arrange a time for you to join us in our investigation.
In this unit we have some main focuses:
As we study Pets, we will learn concepts and skills in social studies, science, literacy, math, the arts, and technology. We will also be developing thinking skills to observe, investigate, ask questions, solve problems, make predictions and test our ideas.
What You Can Do at Home
Some Activities We Have Planned
Thanks for playing an important role in our learning! |
Apreciadas familias,
