Jess Harbison’s March 2016 Newsletter

Jess Harbison—Classroom News

Thank you to all who had the opportunity to attend our fundraiser at Chick-fil-a. We had an amazing amount of support!

Library update:    March will be the last month students will be able to checkout library books. In addition to listening to a story and checking out books, Miss Laura has added some wonderful activities for students to access when we are in the library. There are interactive books, dry erase books, and flannel boards stories and nursery rhymes. The students really enjoy their time in the library!

Harvest of the Month: Our harvest of the month snack for March is pea pods.

Curriculum: Our next STEM unit, beginning the second week in March, will be Robotics. We are excited for the exploration of robotics, as well as a guest speaker we have invited to share his robots with our preschoolers. We will begin reviewing three letters a week with our focus shifting from capital letters to lowercase letters. We will continue to review numerals 0-10 and our Big Idea of Mathematics for March is Data Analysis. We will be making connections between objects/ideas that are familiar to the students, such as, comparing clothing (short sleeves vs. long sleeves) and making a graph to represent the data. We will continue our literacy focus on concepts of print including where the words are on the page, words can be read, and picture to word connection. For our Dr. Seuss week you will see a reading log attached. Please complete and return and your child can choose a prize from the treasure chest.

Makerspace: Students explored our wind tunnel and enjoyed finding out which items it could and could not move. This month we are schedule to explore on Tuesday 3/29 (PM) and Thursday 3/31 (AM).
