Kindergarten Enrollment information for the ’26-’27 School Year

Dear Spark! Discovery Preschool families:

St. Vrain Valley School District offers free full-day kindergarten at every elementary school. Kindergarten applications are accepted starting in December for the following academic year.

It is time to start taking action to enroll and to consider the transition to kindergarten for next school year.  To enroll in kindergarten, students must turn 5 on or before Oct. 1 of that school year. So, to enroll for kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year, children must be 5 years old by October 1, 2026. Please submit kindergarten enrollment information to your school of choice. It’s important to note that each preschool child transitioning to kindergarten needs to fill out a new enrollment, as the current preschool enrollment doesn’t transfer to K-12.  Please be aware, if a family chooses to open enroll out of their attendance area, transportation is not provided, including children with special needs.

As children enter Kindergarten, we want to make you aware of the Kindergarten programming options available for the upcoming school year. Public, St. Vrain Valley Schools, with K-5 or K-8 options in our area include:

I recommend parents take advantage of various methods of learning about schools so they can make the best decision for their child:

  • Request a tour and look at different schools to find a kindergarten that works best for your child and family.
  • Visit the school’s website and social media to get a feel for the school, staff, and students.
  • Call and make an appointment to talk to the principal to visit the school.
  • Check with the school to see if they offer in-coming Kindergarten tours, events, a chance to look around, opportunity to ask questions, or informational nights for interested parents.
  • Look at the Colorado Department of Education website to see how students at the schools are performing: https://www.cde.state.co.us/accountability/performanceframeworks
  • Ask friends and neighbors, with first hand experience, about their child’s school.  Listen for trends.
  • Talk to your child’s preschool teacher to learn about what is expected of children as they start kindergarten.
  • Any additional questions can also be answered by calling the school to which you are submitting your application.

  • Online Registration (linked) (Families will need to take in or be able to electronically send/attach a birth certificate, immunizations, and proof of address)

Also, I want to share that transitioning from preschool to kindergarten can bring up feelings for parents, including wondering if our children are “ready” for kindergarten.  I want to assure you that each elementary school is ready for ALL students, and it is our duty as school staff to be prepared for children to come as they are.  If a child has special needs and an Individual Education Plan (IEP), each school has a special education team that will support, care, and individualize for each child, like we do here, but in a new setting.

If families have enjoyed their experience at Spark! Discovery Preschool, we always appreciate it when they give positive referrals to neighbors, friends, and families about our school.

With respect – Paige Gordon, Principal

Van Gogh Spring Picture Day- Portraits & Class Pictures

Spring Picture Day is coming up on Wednesday, March 25, 2026! Please look for the flyer in your child’s Friday Folders.

Families will have the opportunity to order both individual spring portraits and class group photos. Picture proofs will be sent home approximately two weeks after picture day. All orders are placed online, and photos will be shipped directly to your home for convenience.

For the best results, we recommend dressing your child in solid colors, as they tend to photograph beautifully. Photographers also suggest avoiding large logos and busy patterns to help ensure your preschooler’s smile is the true focus of the picture.

We look forward to capturing these special memories!

Read Across America Week

We are excited to celebrate Read Across America Week with our preschoolers! This special week is a nationwide celebration that encourages a love of reading and highlights the joy that books bring to our lives.

You can join the celebration at home by reading a favorite bedtime story, visiting your local library, or letting your child “read” to you by telling the story from the pictures.

We can’t wait to share the magic of reading with your children!
