Ms. Tori’s update 10-17-17

Hello Preschool Families!!

We hope that you are enjoying your long weekend.

A Week in Review:

  •     We creating our pet carriers as well as tested them. After we tested our carriers, some of us went back to the drawing board to improve our ideas.
  •   We had a great time learning about fire safety with the firefighters. We talked about Stop, Drop and Roll and smoke alarms as well as the importance of not being afraid when a firefighter comes in with full gear.
  •   We talked about the number seven, 7. How do we write seven, 7? Can we find 7 objects?
  • We worked closely with the letter Gg and Ss. We created them with the wood pieces. We also looked at words that start Gg and Ss.
  •    We created different types of triangles. How do we make a triangle? How many sides and points does a triangle have? We also found things that were in the shape of a triangle. We played the game, Is it or Is not a triangle?
  •  We talked about the color, Brown. We looked who was wearing the color and where we could find it in our classroom and outside. We sang this song about the color Brown:

BROWN

(Tune: BINGO)

THERE IS A COLOR WE ALL KNOW.

CAN YOU GUESS WHAT IT IS?

B-R-O-W-N.

B-R-O-W-N.

B-R-O-W-N.

THAT’S HOW YOU SPELL BROWN.

TEDDY BEARS AND SQUIRRELS ARE BROWN.

CHOCOLATE CANDY IS ALWAYS BROWN.

Trick-or-Treat-Street

We will host a Trick-or-Treat-Street for Spark! Discovery Preschool families only, including siblings, on Friday, October 27th, from 4:30-6:00pm. Families and children are encouraged to come dressed in costumes and enjoy trick-or-treating around the inside of the school building. Staff are dressed up too and hand out candy at their classroom doors around the building. Children in wrap around childcare will participate as a group, should a parent not be able to make it to school due to work, and can bring their costume in their backpack. We will make sure they can also attend the event. Also this year the PTO will include the option for families to purchase hotdogs, chips and water.

We are seeking donation of bags of candy, trinkets (without choking hazards), pencils, etc… by Wednesday October 25th, which can be delivered to the front office. In an effort to honor the many requests parents may get for various donations from the school, donation documentation for tax-purposes, will be provided to families requesting it by attaching their name to their donated candy or snacks, as well as the cost of the donation.

A few items to note:

a.)   To ensure the safety of our children, this event is not open to the public.

b.)   We scheduled the event for earlier in the afternoon so that families can pick up their child(ren) from preschool or other local schools and bring them back to school without being too late,

c.)   There will not be supervision for children between dismissal at 3:05pm and the start of the event at 4:30pm (unless children are in Wrap)

d.)   Families are expected to supervise their children.

Community Resources:  We have information to connect families with local agencies regarding mental health, child nutrition, physical fitness, food bank, child find, medical and dental resources, in several locations:

1) In a notebook in the front office,

2) In our parent flyer stand at the front entrance

3) On our school website at http://sdpk.svvsd.org/community-resources.

4) The black table at the front of the school also has activity packets for parents to take in English and Spanish (when possible)

Please let me know if you have any questions.
