Ms. Kiersten’s update 9-29-19

What an exciting two weeks we’ve had!  We had lots of fun in class building boats and seeing if they would float.  Some friends surprised me by being upset theirs floated – it turns out some of us wanted submarines!  We’ve learned about different kinds of land vehicles like trucks, bikes, and cars.  Then on Thursday and Friday we had parachute parties to celebrate our hard work and all of our STARpower.  The MWF  topped it all off with a visit from a dump truck.  Whew, we have been busy!

This week begins with big excitement as well.  We will begin our first design challenge – creating the vehicle of our dreams out of recycled materials.  It is always so much fun to see what all the students come up with to include in their cars!  Our car creations as well as the boats we made two weeks ago will be going on display in the front STEM case by the office later this week.  Be sure to check them out next time you come in the front doors. Also starting Monday, we have our fall Parent-Teacher Conferences.  All of my conferences are being held this week.  If you have forgotten your time or need to reschedule, please call the front office and Ms. Vicky can help you.  Conferences are a great opportunity for you to ask me questions you have about your child and about our class.  Because I have a full schedule, it is important that conferences begin and end on time.  To help with that, I have an idea catcher that you can use to organize any questions you may have for me that will be outside my door and sent home.  Students are welcome to come with you to conferences but they don’t have to.  I look forward to this opportunity to get to know you better. This Wednesday is the state-designated October Count Day. Attendance on this date is very important as it directly impacts our funding from the state.  Please make every effort to have your child at school on Wednesday.  Also note that older students in St. Vrain schools do not have late start on this date. Friday is the last day of our PTO fundraiser.  The Spark PTO is an amazing organization that works hard to help us provide quality experiences for your children.  Not only do the run several fun family events throughout the year but they directly supply our classrooms with some of the amazing educational toys your children enjoy.  Please help them out by participating in the fundraiser.  All forms need to be turned in by Friday. Coming soon:  the afternoon and MWF classes visit the Bot Spot on Thursday and Friday.  All classes visit with the Frederick Firestation during their visit to Spark next Monday and Tuesday.  The first of Spark’s free  parenting workshops begins on Tuesday, October 8.  And more to come . . .  Quick note about Halloween:  We love celebrating Halloween with our families here in preschool.  However, because costumes can be difficult in the classroom (think potty accidents) and students are frightened by different things, we do a very low key classroom celebration with pumpkin painting or cutting and small games in class.  We do our big costume celebration at our annual Trick or Treat Street event the Friday before Halloween.  Teachers and staff will be dressed up and giving out candy to all. It is a great time to show off those adorable costumes.  Look for more information from the Spark office.  To help us with this, please consider donating a bag of candy or small Halloween treat to the office. If you have any forms waiting to be filled out, please get those back to us as soon as possible.  Also, if you did not fill out a lunch/snack form, please visit Free & Reduced Lunch Application Form. Thank you for sharing your children with us! Sincerely, Ms. Kiersten & Ms. Maria Educational Goals for the week of 9/30-10/4Tuesday Thursday class will focus on the letter D, the number 3, and the color green.Monday-Wednesday-Friday class will be focusing on the letters G and H, the number 3, and the color green.PM Class will focus on the letters G and H, the number 3, and the color green. Educational Goals for the week of 10/7-10/10 Tuesday Thursday class will focus on the letter E, the number 6, and the color blue.Monday-Wednesday-Friday class will be focusing on the letters I and J, the number 4, and the color blue.PM Class will focus on the letters I and J, number 4, and the color blue.
