Spark! Newsletter Dec 8, 2025

Dear Families:

Thank you for your help with our food drive to benefit the Carbon Valley Help Center in Frederick! We are always so grateful for the annual support of our community members, and I know the help center really appreciates our support as well.

Is your child missing something? We have a school-wide Lost and Found near the front office. Please drop by the Main Office before, during, or after school to claim belongings. Anything left over the course of the year will be donated at the end of the year

We are beginning enrollment for next year — all returning student’s families received an email on Thurs/Fri of last week outlining the process for returning families, including those families who currently have children in child-care only and will start preschool next year. Families can choose from high-quality, five-day programs, including half-day and select full-day options at schools across St. Vrain. The Colorado Universal Preschool (UPK) application is included in St. Vrain’s form, and families are encouraged to apply early for the best chance of placement at their preferred school. 2026-2027 Preschool Registration Information

Please read St. Vrain’s inclement weather information so that your family can be prepared in the event severe weather results in the closure or delay of our schools.

With appreciation – Paige Gordon, principal

The Magic of Books and Pajamas at Spark!

On December 1st, we kicked off our Book and Pajama Drive to benefit any children at Spark! Discovery Preschool in need a set of new pajamas and a book. After all, good nights are good days, and sometimes we note that some of our friends don’t have PJs for PJ Days. We are seeking the following donations:

  1. New picture books that could be read at bedtime to a preschool child
  2. New pajama sets, requesting the following sizes:
    • Size 4T – ten or more sets – for boys (or gender neutral)
    • Size 5T – ten sets for boys and ten for girls (or gender neutral)
    • Kids size 5-6 – five or more sets for boys and five or more for girls (or gender neutral)
    • Kids size 6-7 – five or more sets for boys and five or more for girls (or gender neutral)
    • Kids size 7-8 – three or more sets for boys and three or more for girls (or gender neutral)

Donations are now being accepted and can be dropped off at the Spark! Discovery Preschool at front office or your child’s classroom by Wednesday, December 17th. Thank you in advance for supporting our students with the magic of a book and cozy pajamas for students to use at home.

If you feel your student(s) could benefit from these donations, please reach out to our Principal, Paige Gordon, at [email protected] or call the school at 720-652-7906 to have your child’s name/size of PJs added to our list. We understand these conversations can feel personal, and please contact us in the way that feels most comfortable.

Positive Trait of the month: Cooperation

This month we are learning all about cooperation—working together, helping our friends, and being part of a team! Preschoolers practice cooperation every day as they share materials, take turns, solve problems with classmates, and contribute to group activities.

We will be talking about what it looks like to be a great helper, using kind words, and noticing when others are being cooperative too. Encouraging cooperation helps children build strong friendships, develop empathy, and feel proud of contributing to their classroom community.

We invite families to join us in celebrating cooperation at home by pointing out moments when your child works well with others—big or small!

Preschool Classroom Volunteer Training

Our Principal, Paige Gordon, is excited to host Volunteer Training at various points through the year in our cafeteria at Spark! Volunteer training is required by the Department of Human Services, as we are a licensed preschool, in order to volunteer in the preschool classroom at our school. Because this newsletter is posted publicly on our website and Facebook page, where the public can get to the links, we have sent an email via Infinite Campus with a Google Form for families to use to sign up for volunteering within the preschool classroom on 8/15/25. If you didn’t get the information due to a recent enrollment, please reach out to Stacey, Principal’s secretary ([email protected]), in our office, and she’ll send you the form — sign up is required. The next training opportunities will be: Monday, January 12, from 8:30 am – 10:00 am and Thursday, January 29, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. These are the last opportunities to be trained during the ’25-’26 school year.

Registrar/Attendance – Amy Yanez

If your child’s going to be late/absent for the day, calling in your child’s absences by 8 AM reduces the amount of time it takes for staff to call each family individually.

Please remember that if you are going out of town or taking a vacation day, vacation requests must go through our principal, Paige Gordon, in order to be excused. You can reach her at [email protected].

As the holidays are quickly approaching. Please remember to let our attendance clerk Amy Yanez know of any absences so that the students attendance can get input into IC accurately. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Amy at [email protected] or at 720-652-7906.

Health Clerk – Amanda Rivera

Hello Spark families! Colorado has cold, dry winters, and for some children that makes eczema flare up. If your student is in need of anything to alleviate symptoms, like lotion or cream, please contact me before sending anything with your student. We need to have a specific form on file that must be signed by a physician before we can use products like this at school. This is due to the label on the bottles that frequently read “Keep out of reach of children.” If you have any questions or concerns please contact Amanda at [email protected] or at 720-652-7906.

Campus Supervisor- Kara Mahan

Colorado weather can be unpredictable this time of year. If the temperature is over 20 degrees and below 90 degrees, students will be enjoying the outdoors. Please dress your child in layers to accommodate all weather changes that may occur during their time at school. As a reminder, clothing items kept in students backpacks or cubbies may need to be swapped out to better match the current season. If you or your family are in need of additional clothing items, please visit our family resource room. We have a variety of items and sizes available at no cost. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Kara at [email protected] or at 720-652-7906.
