Spark! Newsletter Feb 3 – Feb 14, 2025

Message from Our Principal, Paige Gordon

Dear Spark! Discovery Preschool Families: To engage families with Valentine’s Day card making, between Monday, February 3 and Wednesday, February 12, between the hours of 8:00am and 3:30pm, we will have card-making materials in our Makerspace/Library.  This space will be open to families to come make Valentine’s Cards for other students, together for free. Also, feel free to pick up materials and take them home to make them from home.  Additionally, during family-teacher conferences, on Feb 3, Feb 5, and Feb 11, families are invited to pick up, make, and/or take materials from 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm during the evenings of conferences. Also, each teacher may be seeking parents to assist/volunteer to assist with the classroom Valentine’s Day celebration. Please look for more information from your child’s teacher about their specific plans, and I’m sure they would love your help in planning the celebration.

Thank you for your continued trust and dedication to our school community!

With gratitude — Paige Gordon

Valentine’s Day Celebration information

In an effort to host a community event that brings us all together as a community, we will be hosting Valentine’s Day Celebrations in class at the following times, and we hope you will join us:

  • Thurs, Feb 13, from 10:30 – 11:10 am  — Mon – Thurs AM classes
  • Thurs, Feb 13, from  – 2:25 – 3:05 pm– for Mon – Thurs PM and for Full-Day preschool

Teachers will be sending home information about how to best address Valentine’s Day cards for sharing with classmates in their classes.   It is our policy that children bring a Valentine for every child in the class, if they are going to bring them, as this helps everyone to feel included and shows our caring for our friends. There will be some restrictions on the types of treats allowed in the classroom, due to allergies and dietary restrictions that are specific to each room and each schedule (AM vs. PM), so please look for information from the teacher on this as well.   We will have a white lunch bag for each student to collect their Valentine cards on the 13th.

Join Us for Tunes, Tales & Tinkering!

February 3 | 5:15-6:45 P.M. | Innovation Center

Preschool-aged families who live in St. Vrain Valley are invited to a magical, musical evening featuring a special reading of Emilia Tries the Cello by local teacher, author, and cellist Dr. Katarina M. Pliego (a resident of Longmont). Accompanied by members of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, this enchanting story will come to life with a selection of short musical pieces ranging from classical to pop. During the experience, children will have the opportunity to play a variety of instruments and even create their own, blending STEM principles with musical creativity. Books will be given away while supplies last, and snacks and translation services will be available. The evening will conclude with a spectacular performance by St. Vrain’s Student Drone Performance Team. Learn more about this exciting event here.

Counselor’s Corner – Dr. Sandy McTaggart

In our whole class school counseling sessions, we are learning how to be a superfriend through social emotional learning videos and activities. They are asking themselves, “what would a super-friend do?”   Students are learning to stop, think, and act when they have a problem with a friend.  Solutions include using kind words to ask for what they want and waiting patiently for their turn. As always, we start with a breathing exercise to calm our bodies and focus on the lesson. Here’s a link to the superhero breathing exercise that families can use at home: Superhero Breathing Exercise.

See our Spark! Preschool Counseling Website for more information and resources.

A Message from our Campus Supervisor, Kara Mahan

Visiting Spark can be a seamless and enjoyable experience for everyone when proper sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed. Whether families are here for a tour, volunteering in a classroom, or simply entering the building to drop a student off, there are some check in tasks for each visitor, each time. To begin, approach the main entrance doors by following the red footsteps to the doorbell/intercom system located on the wall. Push the button and wait for an office staff member to answer. Visitors will state their purpose for visiting Spark and will be asked to show identification if they are unknown to office staff. Once visitors are cleared by office staff, they are greeted at the interior window to sign in and obtain a visitor’s sticker, which is worn during the visit and placed in a visible area so all staff can any visitor has been approved to be in the building. At the exit Spark, visitors must come back through the front office, sign out, and remove their visitor sticker. This is an important final step for everyone to complete every visit so office staff are able to account for each person onsite at all times.

If there are any safety concerns, please contact, Kara Mahan, [email protected] or at 720-652-7906.
