We’re excited to share that we have a collection of free Halloween costumes available for our preschoolers! Costumes have been generously donated and are gently used; they are on display in the front hallway. Families are welcome to browse and take any costume that might be a good fit for their child.

If any families have gently used costumes they would like to donate, we’re accepting them! Please drop them off at the front office. Thank you for helping make Halloween fun for everyone!

Speech Night at Spark! Discovery Preschool

Positive Trait of the month: Curiosity

This month, we’re focusing on CURIOSITY, which is a strong desire to know or learn something. From birth, children show a desire to explore their environment, notice new things, and ask questions. In the preschool years, this curiosity becomes more purposeful and complex, fueling learning across cognitive, social, emotional, and physical domains. We’ll be celebrating the curiosity of students near the end of the month with some individual recognition by each teacher.

Halloween Celebrations at Spark! Discovery Preschool Fall 2025

We’re thrilled to announce that Halloween will be extra special this year at Spark! Discovery Preschool. Our celebrations will be held in the classrooms during the school day, offering a fun and engaging experience for our preschoolers! We hope to see you there as we create memorable moments together.

Here’s the schedule for our Halloween celebrations:

  • AM Preschool Classes: Friday, October 31, 10:30 – 11:10 am
  • PM Preschool Classes: Friday, October 31, 2:25 – 3:05 pm
  • Full-Day Preschool Class: Friday, October 31, 2:25 – 3:05 pm
  • Ms. Noreen’s PM party- 12:30 pm – 1:15 pm (this is the only exception)

The festivities will include a variety of activities like crafts, games, and of course, costumes and treats! Each classroom teacher will share the specific details of their celebration, including any special instructions.

Costume Guidelines:  We encourage staff, students, and/or family members to join in the Halloween spirit by wearing costumes—though this is completely optional. If your child decides to dress up, please keep the following in mind:

  • Costumes should be easy for a preschooler to wear independently (without assistance, especially when using the restroom).
  • Consider if your child will be comfortable in their costume for the entire school day.
  • We kindly ask that costumes avoid anything too scary or gory, as well as any items that could be potentially unsettling for younger children.
  • Please refrain from costumes that include simulated weapons (like guns, knives, etc.), face paint, masks, or inflatable costumes.

Treats & Goodies:  Our teachers will be planning “goodies” for the celebrations, which may include goody bags to take home or treats to enjoy during the party (potentially with or without edible items). Please note that due to health and allergy concerns, it’s important to consult your child’s teacher before purchasing or providing any items. Each teacher will provide guidelines about what’s safe and appropriate for their class.

Alternative Activities: If your family prefers not to participate in the Halloween celebration, please let your child’s teacher know by Wednesday, October 29, 2025. We will provide alternative activities for those who opt out. If you’d like to pick up your child early, that’s perfectly fine, too!

We’re excited to celebrate Halloween with your little ones and look forward to creating a fun and festive day that everyone can enjoy.

With gratitude — The Spark! Discovery Preschool Staff

Preschool Classroom Volunteer Training

Our Principal, Paige Gordon, is excited to host Volunteer Training at various points through the year in our cafeteria at Spark! Volunteer training is required by the Department of Human Services, as we are a licensed preschool, in order to volunteer in the preschool classroom at our school. Because this newsletter is posted publicly on our website and Facebook page, where the public can get to the links, we have sent an email via Infinite Campus with a Google Form for families to use to sign up for volunteering within the preschool classroom on 8/15/25. If you didn’t get the information due to a recent enrollment, please reach out to Stacey, Principal’s secretary, in our office, and she’ll send you the form — sign up is required. The next two training opportunities will be on Tuesday, Oct 21 from 12:30 – 2 pm, and again Thurs, Nov 20, 4:30 – 6pm.

Parking Reminder

For the safety of our school and community, please do not park in front of the fire hydrant on 8th Street during drop-off or pick-up. Keeping this space clear ensures emergency vehicles have access if needed. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!

Picture Retakes

We are excited to announce that individual picture retakes for our preschool students will take place on Wednesday, Oct 22, 2025. This is a great opportunity for any child who missed the original picture day or if you would like a new photo taken. If you wish to have your child’s photo retaken, please notify the teacher, so we can ensure they are included. We want to make sure every family has a picture they love, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of this chance! The office has extra order forms if needed, so stop by and pick one up, on Monday – Friday between 8 am – 4:00 pm. Attached, you’ll find a PDF flyer with all the information for retakes and ordering pictures. If families have any questions, they can reach out to Van Gogh Photographers at 303-679-9003, option 4, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or via email at [email protected]

Registrar/Attendance – Amy Yanez

Parents entering the building to drop off children must enter the school through the main office, sign in, and wear a school-provided sticker. To leave the building, sign out, take off the sticker, and exit through the same main office doors. Entry is only allowed through the front doors. Please remember that if your child is going to be absent for any reason email or call Amy Yanez at 720-652-7906.

St. Vrain Valley Schools recognizes the importance of being present every day. Student attendance – more than a test score or any other data point – is one of the most accurate indicators of whether a student will graduate and find success after high school. Students who have regular attendance in preschool, kindergarten and first grade are far more likely to be at or above grade-level in third grade and in later grades, score much higher in essential math and reading assessments. It is critical for students to attend school daily in order to acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be college and career ready. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Amy at [email protected]

Health Clerk – Amanda Rivera

Hello parents! There is an official process for reporting all injuries and part of that process is to contact parents or guardians. We call parents/family for EVERY bump and scrape. We start with the first emergency contact and either leave a message, or move down the list, depending on the severity of the injury. If there is an injury above the shoulders then we will also send you an email with the required district Head Bump Notification form. Please check the Infinite Campus portal to ensure the contact list is in preferential order and that phone numbers and emails are correct. If you have any questions or concerns please contact Amanda at [email protected].

Campus Supervisor – Kara Mahan

Fall is a wonderful time of year for outdoor adventures and enjoying community events. It is also a great time to teach/reinforce personal safety rules with your preschooler. Using age-appropriate language, role-playing, reading books, playing games, and giving positive reinforcement can support your child’s learning. Key safety rules to teach may include personal information (knowing their full name, phone number, address), stranger awareness vs trusted adults, safe vs unsafe touch, and empowering children to say “no” if they feel uncomfortable. Additionally, it is important to discuss what to do in the event of an emergency. For preschoolers, this discussion may include what to do if you become lost and how to identify a safe place/person to get help.
