Amy wanted to become a teacher since she was in first grade inspired by her own amazing teacher, Mrs. Weatherholt. She has 15 years of experience teaching preschool. She taught for 11 years at a non-profit Head Start funded organization called the Wild Plum Center. This is her fifth year as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher at Spark. Amy completed her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a focus area in Early Childhood Education at Colorado State University and later earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado. She also has a minor in Spanish and speaks sufficiently to communicate with families. The past few years Amy has participated in many leadership opportunities at Spark including the Design Team and STEM committee. Last year Amy was awarded teacher of the year at Spark! via the SVVSD Education Foundation. Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, two young children and two dogs. She loves craft projects, reading, adult coloring books, tv shows and hanging out with friends. Preschool is Amy’s passion, and she is grateful for the amazing teamwork opportunities at Spark.
