Ms. Marie, Ms. Jessica, & Ms. Toni’s Monthly News

Dear Preschool Families:

Don’t Forget!

Please remember Daylight Saving’s time started today, November 4th, 2018

Reminders: All items on the right side of your child’s Thursday folder are important documents for you to read and return to school.  Please take the time to read them and return them to us on the following Monday when you send the Thursday folder back to school.  We are currently missing several of the signed back cover of the Code of Conduct booklets we recently gave to families. This is a required form and must be returned to us.  Thank you to all families that have already returned the signature page.  If you had not done so, please sign the page and return it to us this week.

Picture retake day is Wednesday Nov, 14th

News:

We are already into the month of November!  We have been studying building materials with the 3 Little Pigs.  Ms. Toni’s husband came to talk to both classes last week.  He brought building materials and showed the children a time-lapse video of a house and a MacDonald’s being built.  The children enjoyed seeing and touching materials like rebar and pipes and they listened intently.  The adults and children alike learned new things!

Our building design challenge is next week.  We will be prototyping and building a home that is safe from the Big Bad Wolf. We will be finishing our Buildings STEM unit before the Thanksgiving break.  Our next STEM unit will be Music.

Healthy Learning Paths Lesson: Wednesday, Nov. 7th Tools to be Cool will be taught teaching kids about problem solving and ways to calm down.

Both classes will begin attending Makerspace this month and soon they will also be going to the computer lab.

STEM Profile for the Month: Respectful

“I show that I care for others, our world and myself.”

Letters for the Month of November:

Week of 11/05– Aa, Vv

Week of 11/12 – Mm, Nn

Week of November 19th – Thanksgiving break – no preschool

Week of 11/26 – Ww, Xx

We will start over counting from 0 and continue to practice colors and shapes.  Help your child learn letters, numbers and shapes by pointing them out at home and in the community.  If you point out a red stop sign for example, it teaches your child that printed words have meaning and different shapes and colors can be seen in many places.

PATHS Social Emotional Curriculum: We are continuing to teach the children to identify their feelings.  This is a proven way to help children manage their emotions.

Our Starpower Reward party will be a parachute party Thursday, November 29th.  Each class still needs to earn some more Starpowers to attend the reward party. Many children are very disappointed when they don’t get to be the Superstar or 1st in line – even though everyone  gets a turn.  If your child experiences these sad feelings, you can encourage them that showing safe hands earns Starpower and a can lead to a Starpower Reward party.
