Information about Kindergarten for Parents at Spark

INFORMATION ABOUT KINDERGARTEN in 2016-2017:

As your child enters Kindergarten, we want to make you aware of the Kindergarten programming options available for the upcoming school year. St. Vrain Valley School District offers the following Kindergarten program configurations at various schools:

•       Traditional Half Day Classes (half days AM/PM, 5 days per week)

•       Half Day, Alternate Day Classes (1 half day, 2 full days per week)

•       Full Day, Every Day Classes (full days, 5 days per week)

·      If you choose to enroll your child in a Full Day, Every Day Kindergarten, there will be a tuition charge for the “other half” of the day.

·      Full Day Kindergarten Program Tuition – $295 per month (September – May) with a $145 non-refundable registration fee due at time of registration (will be applied to September payment)

If you would like to enroll your child in Full Day, Every Day Kindergarten, but would need tuition assistance, you will need to complete a tuition assistance application form, available at: http://www.svvsd.org/about/departments/early-childhoodpreschool/kindergarten.  Please be aware that tuition assistance is limited and may be allocated on a lottery or first-come, first-serve basis to those who qualify. Qualification for free or reduced lunch status does not guarantee enrollment in Full Day Kindergarten.  If the tuition assistance guidelines outlined below do not apply and you feel you may still need assistance, please speak with your building’s elementary principal for additional options (scholarships or other tuition assistance programs may be available).

For the 2016-2017 school year, kindergarten applications will be accepted between Tuesday, December 1, 2015 and Friday, January 15, 2016, in a first-come, first serve basis.  We recommend you take advantage of various methods of learning about the school:

·      Visit the school’s website.

·      Call and make an appointment to talk to the principal or to visit the school.

·      Check with the school to see if they offer tours or informational nights in December/January for interested parents.

·      Look at the Colorado Department of Education website to see how students at the school are performing: http://www.cde.state.co.us/schoolview/performance

·      Ask your neighbors about their child’s school.  Listen for trends.

Registration continues after January 15th, but choice of AM, PM or Full Day may be limited.  Please submit kindergarten enrollment information to your school of choice. Any additional questions can also be answered by calling the school for which you are submitting your child’s application.  Public, St. Vrain schools, in our attendance area, with K-5 or K-8 options in our area include:

·      Centennial Elementary, 720-652-8240, Principal— Shirley Jirik

·      Legacy Elementary, 720-652-8160, Principal— Sean Corey

·      Prairie Ridge Elementary, 720-494-3641, Principal— Kirsten McNeill

·      Thunder Valley K-8, 303-833-2456, Principal— Karen Musick

The above information applies to all children including children with disabilities who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The Half Day District Kindergarten Program is offered at no expense (Free Appropriate Public Education) to families. The services specified in an IEP will be delivered during that portion of the day. In rare instances, when it is necessary to extend the school day, this must be approved by the District Director of Special Education.
