Ms. Nicky’s September 2015 Newsletter

Hello Preschool Parents!

We are off to a great start to the school year!  We are going to be spending some time learning about all of the fun and interesting things we have in our classroom and also in our school before moving on to our first unit of study, which will be Roads and Transportation.  The kids all seem to be settling in and are quickly learning the routines.  After Labor Day, we will begin our Zoo-Phonics and Handwriting Without Tears instruction, as well as start to explore some STEM-based learning projects.

We have started our new Movement Program, and the kids are loving it!  It’s a great way to get our bodies and brains ready for learning.  We have also introduced the new positive behavior system, STAR POWER.  If you notice that your child has a star sticker when they come home from school, be sure to ask them about it!

Home-School Connections

We have sent home the crayon assignment that I told you about at orientation.  Please try to send the completed crayons back to school with your child some time next week so they can share them with the class.  We are excited to learn more about them and continue to build our classroom community!

A Reading Log has been included in the Thursday folder.  Please make an effort to read with your child nightly.  A handout about the digital library, myON, is also included in the Thursday folder, which is a great resource for reading with your child!

A handout about exploring shapes has also been included in the folder.  We will be spending a lot of time in class in the coming weeks exploring shapes in our environment.
