I hope you all had a fun and relaxing long weekend. The kids came back from the break full of energy and enthusiasm.
The cold weather gave us a great launching off point for our Buildings unit which began this week. Students strongly felt we should stay inside because of the cold, easily connecting the weather with our need for shelter. Until spring break we will be exploring many themes about buildings including what they are for, how they can be different, and how they are made. We’ll even take some time to daydream what our dream home would be. (I can’t wait to hear these!) As we learn about buildings we will also be talking about our communities: the buildings we see around us, the community workers who work inside those buildings, and how maps help us find things. You can help your child with these concepts through talking about what you see as you drive or walk around town. We have been working on the concept of right and left. A fun game to play with your child to reinforce this concept is Remote Control where your child tells you what direction to walk and how far then you do it. This will also help them learn words like beside, between, near, and far. Speaking of sheltering from the cold, please be sure your child is dressed to go outside every day. Your children need an opportunity to run and play every day they are at school and we only have the option of the indoor gym on certain days. Ms. Tawna and I greatly appreciate your help with this.
