Ms. Jess’s Newsletter Oct 2016

We have had a fabulous October! We have started our first STEM unit on Buildings. We have been focusing on buildings in our neighborhoods and parts of a house (door, window, roof). For the next two weeks we will be focusing on the story The Three Little Pigs; focusing on the materials used to build houses and sequencing/retelling the story.

Curriculum

*Our Big Idea of Early Mathematics for the month of October is Number Sense. Our focus will be on quantity and how we use numbers to name specific quantities in relation to a set of objects. Some ways you can integrate this work at home include counting a specified amount for snack, how many socks when folding laundry, seconds while washing hands, steps to get to a room, etc.

*We will continue our focus on numerals 1-5.

*Our letter focus will include Ii, Uu, Cc, and Oo.

Join us for the first of four Child Development classes we are offering this year for parents. The topic is Strategies for Reading with your child at home. It will be taught by Miss Ruth and I. Parents who attend will receive a free book!
