Ms. Nicky and Ms. Julie’s News
Thank you to all of you for taking the time to come to conferences! It was nice to meet with all of you to discuss your child’s accomplishments. Thank you, too, to all of the families who were able to attend our Valentine’s celebration. Hopefully, you gained a better understanding of the math we are doing in preschool. If you weren’t able to attend, I hope your child showed you their bag of math activities, and you have been able to try some of the games with them.
We had a lot of fun exploring our 5 senses as a lead-in to our Robotics unit! We got to be scientists as well explored different smells, sounds, tastes, textures, and sights. We are now talking about what a robot is and how a robot can be used to help us and do jobs that humans may not want to do or be able to do. I’m sure we will learn a lot during our trip to Thunder Valley K-8 to see their VEX robots in action.
Kindergarten Registration
Please remember-if you have not registered your child for kindergarten yet, it is important that you do so! If you have any questions about the registration process, you can call the school where you will be registering and they will help you. I am also happy to try to help you in any way that I can!
Working With Your Child at Home
Students are doing a wonderful job of learning their letters and letter sounds! Many students are getting some letter sounds confused, though. They are confusing the C and S sounds, G and J sounds, the M and N sounds, and the U, W, and Y sounds. If you see these letters in the environment, ask your child what sound they make. A math concept that continues to be tricky for most students is ordinal numbers–what comes 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. This is really easy to incorporate into tasks or routines that your child might have around the house, such as brushing their teeth or getting ready for bed. You could ask questions like, “What do you do first when you are getting ready for bed?” This can also be done when reading a story as you talk about the sequence of events in a well-known book.
