CARNIVAL – Thank you!
Thank you to all of our volunteers who assisted in many different ways for the CARNIVAL that was last Friday night! The event was so well attended, and our volunteers did such an amazing job. There are so many small details that go into holding an event like this — setting up and decorating, cleaning up, manning the games, making calls for food trucks, making flyers, communications, putting all the furniture and regular school items back in the cafeteria and gym, figuring out how all of the PTO items will fit back into the closets (think: JENGA), taking out trash, coordinating volunteers, bringing in cakes, making balloon displays, putting together a sign-up for volunteers, social media posts, purchasing items, scheduling the air conditioning to keep running, and MORE! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! – Paige Gordon, principal

LIBRARY BOOKS – final update
Thank you for participating in checking out books for your child. Your commitment to early literacy skills helps your student become early readers. Ms. Amy and I have enjoyed reading stories and watching the books selected each week by the students.
This week is the LAST time we will be checking out books for the ‘25-’26 school year. Please return all library books back to your child’s teacher by Tuesday May 5, 2026. Library staff need time to check in all books and re-circulate them onto the shelves. Students will still get library time as library staff will be coming into the classrooms for “storytime” until May 15th.
If any students have a lost book, they have been notified that a fee for the missing book was added in their Infinite Campus account. Families will need to make payment arrangements as soon as possible. If families cannot find thier library book, please email Amy or myself at Nusbaum_Jennifer@svvsd.org and Yanez_amy@svvsd.org, and we will make arrangements for online payment.
If there are any questions please feel free to call us at 720-652-7906. Thank you for a wonderful school year!

From the desk of our Campus Supervisor, Kara Mahan
Spring is filled with family outings, sports games, and gatherings—making it an ideal time to help your preschooler learn how to stay safe and make smart choices when they’re out and about.
You can start by practicing a few simple, practical skills. Help your child recognize “safe adults,” such as parents, teachers, and trusted caregivers, as well as people in the community who can help in a pinch, like store employees or uniformed staff. Encourage them to use a strong, confident voice to say “no” and to move away from unfamiliar people if something doesn’t feel right.
It’s also helpful for children to know key personal information, including their full name, their caregiver’s full name, phone number, and home address. Reinforce habits like staying close to a trusted adult and always asking before going anywhere.
To build these skills naturally, try using conversation starters like: “What would you do if you couldn’t find me in a store?” “Who are safe adults you can ask for help?” or “What does your strong voice sound like?”
As you teach these concepts, focus on building confidence rather than fear. Use clear, consistent language—such as “safe” versus “unsafe” situations—and remind your child that they can always come to you and talk about anything.

CHILD FIND AND EARLY INTERVENTION:
Each district is required to have a child find process to inform the public and to identify children ages 3 to 21 who may be eligible to receive special education services. The District Child Find Assessment Team is a district level team that provides quality, child focused screenings and evaluations for children ages 3-5 and supports building level teams for students in grades K-12. Evaluation referrals come from a variety of sources including: families, community agencies, child care, preschools, medical providers and school staff. The School District of residence for any child ages 3 through 21 is required to “Child Find” students who may have an educational disability as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Educational Act. For more information on the Child Find process please visit the links below:
- Early Intervention Colorado – Birth through Age 2 (Intervention does not need to wait! If there are concerns for children who are infants through age 2, please call for an evaluation/screening and potentially receive services in the home!)
- Child Find – Preschool (Ages 3-5)
For any additional questions or to schedule an evaluation, please contact Jodie, in the SVVSD Child Find office at 303-772-6649.
