Ms. Jess’s Newsletter – December 2016

We had a busy November! This month we focused on the letters Qq, Gg, and Oo.. We also have been working on recognizing numbers 1-5 and counting groups of items from 1-5.  We have wrapped up our unit on Friends & Families.

Curriculum:  Our next unit of focus will be Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We will be focusing on concepts such as “What is a garbage/recycle truck?” and “How can we take care of our earth?” The letters for December include Ss,Jj, Dd.  We will continue to focus on numbers 1-5 as well as our big idea of number operations (looking at sets and discussing how many, more, and fewer.)

Mathematics:  One of my goals this year is for students to be able to follow directions related to positional words. The words we are focusing on are up, down, in, on, and under. This can be reinforced at home by giving a one step specific direction related to position. Some examples would be ‘put your plate on the counter’ ‘put your shoes in the closet’ ‘put your toy under the table’.

Winter Celebration:  We will have a Winter Celebration on Thursday 12/16 10:30-11:10 (AM)  and 2:25-3:05 (PM) We will have games, a craft, and snacks.
