Ms. Kiersten’s class update 4-2-18

I hope you all had a wonderful and exciting spring break.  I’m excited to hear all about it from your children tomorrow.  Class starts at the usual time.  While the forecast for tomorrow is calling for warm weather in the afternoon, please be sure to send your child with a warm jacket.  It takes a while for the sun to warm up all the way and the wind can be chilly.

This week we will be continuing our study of pets, focusing on why people have pets.  This will be a great time for your child to share stories about pets he/she knows.  If you haven’t already sent in a picture of a pet your child likes, please do so by Wednesday.  Also this week is a visit from a pet groomer on Thursday.   On Thursday I will be sending home the next set of book order flyers.  Scholastic is giving our class a wonderful treat – each student gets a coupon towards a free book!  Look for these coupons (and more details) with the flyers in the Thursday folder.  Book orders will be due back on Thursday, April 12. Please note that while older grades have a late start on Wednesday this week, preschool classes start at the same time as usual.  We look forward to seeing you here on time.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us!

Sincerely,

Ms. Kiersten and Ms. Toni

Coming Late to Preschool

As a parent, I know how difficult it can be to get young children out of the house on time.  A shoe is lost, the juice got spilled, or today is the day my child is practicing the word no.  Next thing you know, I am running late.

It’s important to have children at school on time, everyday, for their learning and also for the other students in our class.

During the first 15 minutes of our class we do a number of learning activities.  We wash hands, put up backpacks, greet students, go to circle time, review our Zoophonics letters, count how many students are present, discuss the day’s schedule , and talk about classroom jobs before saying the pledge of allegiance.  The “kid of the day” is announced and receives compliments from teachers and peers. By 8:45 am / 12:40 pm we’ve covered math, reading, self-esteem, citizenship, and responsibility!

When students arrive late they also interrupt other students’ learning.   Staff members must stop working with students to help settle the late student and get them caught up with what we are working on.  Because snack count is taken first thing it makes it difficult to ensure we have enough snack for everyone and attendance has to be resubmitted.  Please make every effort to get your child to school on time. If you need some ideas or strategies, please let me know. My team has lots of experience and may have a way to help.

Nuts & Bolts:

If your child is sick or is going to be absent, please be sure to tell the office and me. A group email to Ms. Kiersten, the office, and wrap-around helps ensure we are all aware of what is going on. Thank you!

If you would like to volunteer in my classroom or at the school, please contact the office about setting up a time for the mandatory training.

Remember to say goodbye to your child before they come into the cubby.  For safety reasons, we cannot allow them to run out to you after they’ve been checked in.

Please be sure to send in your child dressed for the outdoor weather.  We will be going out even when the temperatures are in the low 20’s.

Be sure to have your child’s name on their homework when it gets turned in.

Tuition payments need to be turned into the office, not left in your child’s folder.
