Ms. Kiersten’s update 5-5-19

Happy May!  I hope you are getting to enjoy some of the beautiful weather this weekend.  If you do so by the school you might even get to meet some of our class’s guests from this last week.  We’ve been busy observing how caterpillars change into butterflies for the last few weeks and last Monday the newly grown butterflies had emerged from their cocoons.  We enjoyed watching them eat watermelon and fly around this past week.  Thursday the weather was finally warm enough that we released them out in the front flower bed.  Every time I’ve been out there this weekend I’ve seen painted lady butterflies so I think they are sticking around.

While the bug study is over, we are still busy learning about plants.  We’ll be looking at different types of seeds, learning about plant parts, and seeing what plants need to grow.  We even have some ‘pet’ worms in the sensory table to keep our soil rich.  If you have any extra seeds you didn’t use in your garden, please send them in.  We will also experiment to see what happens if you try to grow seeds without dirt/water/sun.  We may try to have an all-plant snack near the end of the unit but I haven’t figured out all the details yet. As our school year comes to an end, our PATHs lessons start to talk about changes, saying goodbye, and celebrating good times and good memories.  This is all to help students have a smoother transition to summer and new school experiences next year.  We will talk about what they liked this year and also look ahead to what they would like to lean next year in school.  We will spread this out over the next three weeks so the students can have plenty of time to absorb the ideas.  While I can’t give you a list of class contact information, I encourage you to exchange contact information with the parents of your child’s friends so they can play together over the summer. We will celebrate the end of our year of learning on the last day of school with a party. The whole family will be invited for the last half of our last day together to celebrate and say goodbye.  More information will be coming out by May 15. Donations of paper cups (small drink size) would be much appreciated! Thank you for sharing your amazing children with Ms. Tawna and I! Sincerely, Ms. Kiersten Important Dates:May 16:  PBIS party and PJ Day Fundraiser – $1 donation to PTO for child to wear PJs at school.May 17:  PBIS party and PJ Day Fundraiser – $1 donation to PTO for child to wear PJs at school.  May 22:  Last day of school for the Monday/Wednesday/Friday morning classMay 23:  Last day of school for the PM class and the Tuesday/Thursday class
