Ms. Tori’s Update 9-15-17

Hello Preschool Families!!

We hope that you are enjoying the beautiful weather. Thank you to the families who were able to make it to the McDonald’s Fundraiser as well as the Miner’s Day Festivities. It was great seeing you there and we hope that you had fun.

A Week in Review:

  • We talked about the different places to get a pet. We talked about the humane society, pet stores and animal rescues.
  •  We talked about the number three, 3. How do we write 3? Can we find 3 objects?  Is there a poem to remember how to write the number 3?
  • We worked closely with the letter Ff and Ee. We created them with the wood pieces as well as looked at words that start Ff and Ee.
  •  We talked about the color, Green. We looked who was wearing the color and where we could find it in our classroom and outside. We sang this song about the color Green:

(ROW, ROW ROW YOUR BOAT)

G-R-E-E-N, G-R-E-E-N

I KNOW HOW TO SPELL GREEN, G-R-E-E-N

CATERPILLARS ARE GREEN

AND GRASSHOPPERS, TOO

I KNOW HOW TO SPELL GREEN, G-R-E-E-N

Did you know?

·      Mathematics Knowledge & Skills describe children’s abilities to understand numbers, quantity, and the relationships between them. Also important to this domain is a basic understanding of shapes, the position of shapes in space, patterns, data, and measurement.

·      Many skills in early mathematics require children to make generalizations and think abstractly, which builds cognitive skills that support a wide array of early learning and are associated with positive outcomes.

·      Early mathematics skills are the strongest predictors of later academic performance (Duncan, 2007, UC Irvine)

Please let me know if you have any questions.
