Jess Harbison’s Dec. 2015 Newsletter

We had a busy November! This month we focused on the letters Gg, Ss, and Jj. We also have been working on writing numbers 1-3 and counting groups of items from 1-3.  We have wrapped up our unit on Health and Exercise.

Our next unit of focus will be Pets. We will be focusing on concepts such as “What animals are pets?”  “What do you need to care for a pet?” and “Where do different types of pets live?” The letters for December include Dd, Pp, and Bb.  We will focus on numbers 4 and 5 as well as our big idea of number operations (looking at sets and discussing how many, more, and fewer.

This month we have been focusing on answering a question in response to the book we are reading for the week.  The question we are focusing on is “Is the book about _____ or _____?” Students are given a visual or object to help them answer the question.  This can be embedded into your routine when you finish reading a book at home. We have also been sending home the rhyming letter book that corresponds with the letter we are learning each week.  This is a great opportunity for you to practice having your child work on book concepts such as pointing to each word, turning pages from left to right, and using the pictures as clues for the words you are helping them read.
