Ms. Tori’s Update 2-4-17

Hello Preschool Families!!

We hope that you are enjoying your weekend.  We are excited to see what February will bring!  So much to learn with the various holidays throughout the month:  Groundhog Day, Valentines Day, Presidents Day, Susan B Anthony’s birthday, even February 28th which is Tell a Fairy-tale Day.   Look for two new faces this week as we welcome our new students.

A Week in Review::

·      We started our new unit on Simple Machines. We talked about Inclined Planes and Wheels and Axles. We looked at how these simple machines can make work easier to do. We used an inclined plane as a ramp to measure the distance that a car, cylinder and pom-pom could roll.

·      We did a review of the colors, Brown. We looked for the Brown in our classroom and outside.

·      Talked about the number nine. How do we write 9? Can we find 9 objects?  Is there a poem to remember how to write the number 9?

·      We talked about the shape Rhombus. How do we draw a rhombus? How many sides and points does a rhombus have? We looked for things that were of a rhombus in our classroom, gym and outside.

·        We worked on the Letters, Oo, Qq, Gg, Ss. We practiced writing them, building them with wood and creating them with play dough. We also talked about different words that start with those letters.

What to Expect:

  •  Monday, Feb. 6th: Makerspace
  •  Letters: Jj, Dd, Pp, Bb
  •  The number: Ten 10
  • The color: Black
  •   The Shape: Hexagon
  •   Sight word: To
  •  New STEM Unit: Simple Machine: Lever and Pulleys.

Thank you for your support! Working with your preschooler at home really makes a difference.

Please also check the spare clothes in your child’s backpack to make sure that they are for the right weather. Your child will need to have winter boots to be able to play on the playground if there is snow. We will be going outside unless it is below 20°F or unsafe weather conditions.
