When Parents Have Concerns about Moving to Kindergarten

If you have concerns about your child moving on to kindergarten, and you feel they are not ready, please contact your child’s teacher. It’s important for families to gain an understanding of what is expected in kindergarten and to communicate their concern to their child’s teacher and to administration.  Several team meetings are a part of the process and will be held to discuss concerns, needs, and data. This team includes parents, teacher, administrator at Spark, the administrator at the elementary school the student should attend, and the district early childhood coordinator . If the child has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), a special education representative will also be present. A plan will be put in place regarding the concerns to include interventions  / strategies and data collection in an attempt to resolve concerns.  A second problem solving meeting will be held again in the spring school year to discuss concerns, interventions and strategies used, and data will be used in the decision making process for the team.
